Trial design and data analysis Workshop 23 – 26 May 2016

Participants from the four project target countries participated in a hands-on training which covered vital aspects of yam breeding especially with a focus on use on digital devices such as tablets, mobile phones and laptop computers. Other aspects covered featured detailed use of Yambase and fieldbook app with an aim of strengthening the capacity of next generation yam breeders and technicians

TAC Meeting Cotonou 2016

The AfricaYam annual review and planning meeting took place at the IITA Cotonou station, Benin Republic between the 14th to 18th of March 2016 and drew participants from project partners in Nigeria, Ghana, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Japan, USA and UK who gathered to review the progress made in the previous year and to chart a new course for achievement of the project goals.

Breeders & technician training 2015

In a bid to enhance the capacity of staff in national research institutions in Ghana, the AfricaYam project successfully held a training exercise on electronic data capture at the Crops Research Institute (CRI), Kumasi between the 24th – 26th February, 2016 and immediately proceeded to Savannah Agriculture Research Institute (SARI), Tamale to deliver a similar training on the 29th February – 2nd March, 2016.

2015 visit to partners & Togo

The project management team and breeders from IITA embarked on a monitoring visit to each partner in West Africa. This was the first visit to partners and helped to access the infrastructure/yam breeding capacity of each institution as well as to interact with the management of each institution on sustainable strategies for improving yam breeding. The team had an interactive session with the management of ITRA, Togo who expressed interest in working with the project to develop its yam breeding capacity.

2017 Abuja Yam day

Seminar and exhibition of yam composite products took place on March 16 2017 at Abuja.

Launching of the YCoP and inaugural workshop

The workshop was held at the White Sands hotel Tanzania on the 4th of March 2017 and drew a diverse range of participants to build a common platform to support yam research
